Our paddle surfing team were down in Cornwall last weekend competing in the BSUPA National SUP Surfing Championships at Watergate Bay. The opportunity to test drive the new Loco Tomo surfboards in some Cornish froth seemed too good to pass up so boss man Joey T threw a couple in the van with a view to getting the team grom Finn Gamblin to get his wiggle on in between his U16 SUP duties.
The surf was huge and onshore when we finally got down to Newquay so a plan was hatched to get the boy out at Crantock for a bit of practice on his sinky new SUP and also have a play on the new Loco Tomo Surfboard in some serious juice.
Already known as a fearless grom back at his home break Tynemouth Longsands and also being part of the Surf Solutions youth academy, Finn is no stranger to pumping waves. In fact he spent most of the summer charging Raglan out in New Zealand so he was soon out back and picking off the best of the head high sets.
Having spoken to Finn after the session he commented that his 5’6” Loco Tomo paddles really easily which is due to our clever volume distribution, precise amount of nose kick and hybrid hull shape.
He also said that even for his 55kgs the board turns remarkably tightly especially on the backhand which coupled with it’s straight line speed makes for full throttle lip smacks and flowing cutbacks both sides.
If you’re looking for a versatile shape for this winter’s swells in a solid bamboo epoxy sandwich construction give Joey T a call on 0191 4206921 or drop us an email through our contact page. We have a range of sizes. The Magic Whale is also worth a look for those packing a bit more beef looking for a super short outline that paddles as easily as a Mal.
