Loco SUP on location in Wales

After studying the forecast at length it looked like all the elements were set to come together for that rare occasion when a proper ground swell pushes up the Irish Sea (past the Llyn Penninsular) to Broad Beach, Rhosneigr to produce a special wave! Myself and the boy wonder (son Ollie) were up at the crack of dawn to get there at 6.30am on a frosty Friday morning only to be confronted by some peachy clean lines pushing through. We couldn’t believe our luck!!

Steve paddling out

Boards were unpacked and wetsuits donned in record time so we could make the most of the swell before work/school. After a couple of rinsings we negotiated the white water and positioned ourselves out back picking off the best of the set waves. I was riding my trusty Loco 7’10” powered by Thorpy’s K4 Fins which continues to delight me, carving full throttle bottom turns, busting out the tail off the top and even trying aerials!

Steve lip smack

Best wave of the day was double head and just kept peeling which meant I got eight solid turns culminating in the lip smack above. Sadly the high tide killed it after a couple of hours so we called time, restocked on energy and warm coffee and headed back to civilisation for the daily grind.

Props to paddling buddy Mark Lloyd who pitched up late and was happy watching and snapping. Hopefully the snaps give an idea of just how good Rhosy can be on its day?! With another great forecast afoot for the start of this week we’re confident of some more juice. Both Ollie and I are keen to check out a fast right hand reef break so stay tuned for more SUP surfing action from Wales.

If you’re looking to make the most of your sweeping this season, there’s no better time to get onto the the surf with Loco. Check their latest offer here
